The talent she had developed was discovered through singing in the church choir. She was a finalist on a talent show on TV in her 15th year and then began appearing regularly on the Tv series Skyline Melodies while still in high school. The singer began performing in nightclubs at the same age. Nancy was 17 at the time she completed high school. Nancy began recording for Dot Records in 1956, when she was part of the band. Cannonball adderley encouraged her to move into New York in order to advance her career. She visited The Big Town, New York in the year 1959. Within a couple of weeks, Adderley's manager was impressed by her voice and hired her. In 1960, he signed her to Capitol Records. That the same year, she debuted her debut single. Guess who? Capitol published five Nancy Wilson records in just two years. She began by focusing on R&B and then, with Adderley's influence, she embraced jazz. Nancy Wilson and Cannonball Adderley collaborated in 1962, which helped push her up on the charts.
