Jazz musician Nancy Wilson a three-time Grammy Award-winner was born on the 20th of February 1937 in Ohio, Chillicothe. She was the daughter of iron worker Olden Wilson and his wife Lillian Ryan who worked as a housekeeper. Nancy was the youngest out of 6 siblings. Nancy was inspired by her father's music taste as well as the music played at her home. When she was just four years old, she knew she'd be a singing star. Her talent developed due to her participation in the choir at church. At the age of 15 when she was 15, she got a spot on a talent show on TV and began appearing on The Skyline Melodies Tv Show while at the time she was still in high school. She began working in nightclubs at the same age. Nancy dropped out of Central State University in Ohio after matriculating for an entire year. Her first record was recorded in 1956 with Rusty's Carolyn Club Big Band. The band performed with her throughout 1956 and 1957. Nancy recorded her first album on Dot Records during the time she spent with this group. Cannonball addederley advised her to relocate to New York for her career and, in 1959, she moved into The Big Town. In less than a month she had been singing at The Blue Morocco Night Club which is located at Boston Road near The Bronx. The representative of Adderley heard her sing and immediately took her on. It was a contract by Capitol Records in the year 1960. In 1960, she released her first single. Guess who saw today. Capitol Records issued five Nancy Wilson albums over a two-year period. At first, she focused on blues and rhythm under Adderley's influence she moved away from R&B and began to embrace jazz and torch songs. Nancy Wilson and Cannonball Adderley collaborated in 1962, which led to her rise up the charts. The year 1963 was when she had her greatest success through Tell Me the Truth. In the year following it led to her getting booked in New York's Coconut Grove - the top nightclub in America.
