Nancy Wilson, a jazz singer and a three-time Grammy Award winner was born in Ohio, Chillicothe 20 February 1937, to Olden Wilson, an ironworker. had worked for a long period as a housekeeper. Nancy Wilson was youngest born child at the age of 6. Her father's love of music as well as the music he played at home had a major influence on Nancy as a young girl. As young as 4years old, Nancy was aware that her future was as a performer. Her talents were developed when she sang in the church choir. In high school, she appeared regularly with Skyline Melodies. In the year she turned 15years old, Nancy started her professional career at nightclubs. After graduating from high school aged 17 Nancy matriculated for one term at Ohio's Central State College now Central State University before leaving and becoming professional as a performer. In 1956 she released her debut album along with Rusty Bryant's Carolyn Club Big Band. The group toured with Rusty Bryant throughout 1956 until 1958. Nancy made her debut album on Dot Records during the time she was with the group. Cannonball Adderley encouraged her that she needed to relocate in New York to further her professional career. She moved to The Big Town at the end of the year 1959. Within a month she got a gig singing at The Blue Morocco Night Club located on Boston Road in The Bronx the place where her agent heard her, and she was signed. The contract was signed by Capitol Records in 1960. That year, she released her first single. Guess who saw today. Capitol issued 5 Nancy Wilson Albums in 2 years. Adderley helped her move away from R&B and to focus on jazz and torch song. Their collaboration in 1962 with Nancy Wilson and Cannonball Adderley was instrumental in propelling her to the top as she released her biggest smash Tell Me the Truth in 1963. In the following year, she was asked to perform at the New York's Coconut Grove, the most prestigious club in America.
